Learn how to cut, shape and combine glass or ceramic materials into a glorious synthesis while being artistically mentored by Gravelly Beach mosaic artist, Susanna Mills. Together, we’ll make your creative ideas a reality.
Wintery Wednesday Night Mosaic Classes
6.30pm to 8.30pm, every Wednesday, running for 6 weeks: JUNE 4*,11,18, 25 and JULY 2, 9
Winter brings a strong incentive to stay indoors and the motivation to warm up to your next creative endeavour. Right down through history, winter has traditionally been the time to either make (or repair) things for the household. The act of making is just as visually stimulating as any electronic device, but you do something tangible to show for your time, at the end of the day. Making teaches you practical skills such as researching what you are going to do, curating the materials to do it, organising your workspace, the soothing processes of 'making' and of course, the satisfaction of turning your idea, into a reality.
Each season has its own character and appeal. Embrace the cold, rainy weather and make a mosaic. Wrap it up during winter and have it on display just in time for spring !
Course Details:
Novice Mosaic Artists: You will be taught how to master the skills required to compose a small mosaic artwork. You’ll then move on to something more ambitious.
Have Mosaic Experience? Let Susie know what you would like to make, so she can prepare for your project.
Note: We are working with small, but sharp materials: please wear closed in shoes.Bring a towel and a square ice cream tub to aim your cuts into.
Materials: We all enjoy physically curating our mosaic materials. The online shopping experience simply can't deliver the sensory experience of being able to see, touch, feel and organise all the mosaic materials we want for the creations we are visualising. Everything online involves shipping, transaction and platform fees- by purchasing direct from Susie’s Studio, you get to save on the cost of materials. Our studio specialises in selling small quantities of mosaic tiles for mosaic art. We also stock tools, glues, stained glass, found objects, ceramic tiles, unique mosaic bases and more.
* Join us at any stage over the 6 weeks: ie: 6 week course fee of $210 will be discounted each week that passes, so if you can only make 4 classes, we charge for 4 classes.

2025 Mosaic Classes for You?
Susie's Studio offers various classes for students of every level. At the beginner’s level, we offer lessons to skill you up and get started with a small mosaic plaque. Intermediate and advanced lessons are available for mosaic artisans wishing to break away from the basics and into more experimental work.
Fall under the soothing spell of making mosaics and be inspired by your classmate's artworks in progress while being artistically mentored by Susanna Mills- a professional, practising visual artist and longtime MAANZ Member. Weekly Mosaic Classes in 2025 are on WEDNESDAY mornings or evenings at Susie's Studio, conveniently situated opposite Gravelly Beach Metalworks and sculpting on Gravelly Beach Road. Limited places per class (10-12 max) are available, so enquire now to secure yourself a spot.
Customers are encouraged to commit to as long a period as possible, because creating mosaic artwork is a slow and methodical process, requiring a consistent and focused approach to finish it and thereby learn. For new customers, once you have learnt the basic skills during your first classes, allow yourself time to simply relax and enjoy mastering the process, and be inspired by the creativity and company of fellow enthusiasts !
PLEASE NOTE:

AD-HOC, casual day attendance is by prior arrangement only due to the limited space available in my studio and costs $40pp/ per class/day materials excl. (6-week course customers, will be given seating priority. ) This is a sensible 'try before you buy' option to see if you like what we do, before you commit to 6 weeks with us in the next six week block of mosaic classes.

Mosaic Materials are not included in the 6 week BYO course.

There is also a bountiful bucket of free, 'orphan tiles' for you to scratch through or contribute to, as you work.
